How do Rows and Columns work?

In the Newsletter editor, everything is broken down into rows that each contain columns. As you mouse over the body of your newsletter you will see these different areas highlighted. Clicking to edit different parts of the newsletter will let you see options that pertain to the particular row or content you’re editing in the right hand panel of the screen.

Clicking on a content block will let you edit that individual piece of content. If you want to make changes to the background colors of the row or the columns within that row, you just need to click off to either side of the main body area and select the entire row.

When editing an entire row, you will see these sets of options:

  • Columns: In this section, you can set the number of columns you want, and change their configuration. You can also adjust the width of columns directly by clicking and dragging on the separator between them in the content area. You can have up to 4 columns in a row.

  • Column Properties:  This section allows you to change the background color of individual columns, as well as their padding and borders.
Note: Each column in the row you are editing has its own individual options in tabs at the top of this menu section.

  • Row Properties: This section allows you to edit options pertaining to the entire Row. You will notice there are multiple background options:

    • Background Color: This allows you to set the background color for the entire row.

    • Content Background Color: This allows you to set the background color for the body section of the row (the middle section where content is added).

    • Background Image: Here you can upload a background image (or add one via URL). Once you have selected an image, you will have options to show this image as the background for the entire row or just the body section. You also have the option to tile the image if you’d like to use it as a pattern.
Adding a Background Image will replace the Background Color, but not the Content Background Color. With this in mind, you can add a Background Image for the whole row, and then set the Content Background Color to a flat color so the content in the row is readable.

You will also see options in Row Properties to adjust the padding of the entire row.

  • Responsive Design: If you wish, you can hide certain rows when the newsletter is viewed on a desktop computer. This option is also available on any individual content blocks.
