How are Newsletters different from Announcements?

Newsletters function very similarly to Announcements, but use a new, powerful editor that allows you to drag and drop blocks of content and design beautiful newsletters in minutes! You still have the same options to post to certain groups, notify only certain types of users, change header/footer templates, schedule posts, preview and send test emails, and view distribution dashboards that you normally get with Announcements.

How do I make a new Newsletter?

You will see a new “Newsletter” content type in the New Post section of any group you have permission to post or submit posts for approval.

Clicking this will take you to a template selector screen where you can pick one of our pre-made templates to get started from.

You can also go to a previously sent Newsletter, open it up, click the 3 dots menu, and click Clone.

This will let you start a new newsletter using the content of that previous newsletter, so you can make changes to that content and send it out as a new newsletter.

Once you’ve selected a template, you will automatically use that template by default when you start a new newsletter. However, if you want to try another template, you can use the button in the bottom left to choose a new one.

How does the Newsletter editor work?

The Newsletter editor is split into two sections, the content area on the left, and the side panel on the right.

In the content area, you can preview your newsletter exactly as it will look on your Beehively portal and in your user’s inboxes. You can even preview mobile or desktop versions of your Newsletter right from this view using the controls in the bottom left.

In the side panel, you will notice 4 icons on the far right. These are as follows:

  • Content: This is where you’ll find all the building blocks of your newsletter. Drag in a content block anywhere in your newsletter to start using it.

  • Blocks: This area lets you drag in new rows with different configurations of columns, which you can then fill with content blocks of your choosing.

  • Body: This is where you manage settings relating to your entire newsletter.

  • Images: Search the web for royalty free, attribution free images that you can use wherever you’d like. Just search with the bar at the top and then drag to replace any image in your newsletter, whenever you want!
