If you’re a student who is new to Beehively, this article will show you around and help you navigate the app.

At the top of the screen, you’ll see 3 buttons, “My Hive”, “Portfolio”, and “Homeroom”. In the upper right, you’ll see your profile picture, which you can click on to find the option to Log Out if you need to.

My Hive

Your homepage is called My Hive. On this screen, you’ll see your To-do list. When your teachers accept, return, or give you feedback on your work, you’ll see it here. You can also quickly turn in work by clicking the Turn In button in the upper right corner.

Portfolio page

Your Portfolio page is where you can check on all the work you have turned in for all your classes or any work you haven’t yet turned in and have as a draft. On the left-hand side of this screen, you’ll see some controls to filter this list by status, or by classroom.

Here are the different ways you can view your work:

  • All - This will show you all the work you’ve ever turned in.

  • Pending - This will show you all the work you’ve turned in but are still waiting for your teacher to review.

  • Draft - This will show work that you have started to work on, but saved as a draft. You can still edit it before you turn it in!

  • Returned - This is work that your teacher has returned to you to make changes to. You can view teacher feedback to see what they want you to change. Like a draft, you can edit your work and turn it in again.

  • Added to portfolio - This is work your teacher has approved and added to your portfolio.

Below that, you’ll see a list of all Classrooms and Courses you are enrolled in and have the option to submit work to. Clicking or tapping on your homeroom at the top allows you to view all your work. Click or tap on any course in the list to view only work for that course.

Homeroom

The Homeroom button will take you to your homeroom page. Here you can find useful information that your teacher has added to your homeroom!

Class Homepage/Announcements

When you click on Homeroom, you will land on the Class Homepage. This view will show you Announcements your teacher has posted on the left, and a welcome message on the right.

Class Calendar

The Class Calendar lists important upcoming dates and events for your class.

Resources

Resources are helpful links that your teacher has added that relate to particular topics or courses.

Files

Any files that your teacher has added for your classroom will be viewable here.

How To Turn In Work

To start turning in your classwork, click Turn In from My Hive or your Portfolio page.

When you click Turn In, you’ll see this screen:

Here you can start writing your work to turn in to your teacher on the left side of the screen. You can also upload files or Google Docs if you have already done your work elsewhere. At the very top of the window, you’ll see a spot to add a title to your work.

By default, you will turn your work into your homeroom, if you want to turn in work for a different classroom or course, use the Turn in work for dropdown to find the course you want to turn your work in to.

When you are ready to turn in your work, press Next. If you aren’t ready yet, you can save your work as a draft by pressing Save As Draft

Once you’ve hit Next you’ll be able to preview your work before you send it off to your teacher. Take this time to make sure everything looks perfect, then press Turn In to send it to your teacher! Once you’ve turned in your work, you can’t make any changes unless your teacher Returns it to you, so if you want to make any changes, you can click Edit before you turn it in to go back to editing mode.

Viewing Teacher Feedback

When your teacher reviews your work, they will have the option to Return it to you if they want you to keep working on it, or they can add it to your Portfolio if it’s done. Your teacher also has the option to add Feedback to your work, which you can see. When your teacher does any of these things to a piece of work you’ve turned in, you’ll see a notification of this on your My Hive page.

Clicking on these notifications will open up that piece of work. If the work was added to your Portfolio, it will show a green check icon. If the work was Returned to you, it will show a red arrow.

When you click on a piece of work, you will see any feedback the teacher has given on it. If the work was Returned to you, you can click Edit to continue editing it before turning it in again.
